Gail Watson Photography
As a young girl on Long Island, NY, Gail grew up in a family restaurant- the owners’ kid on a stool in the kitchen, falling in love with the magic and science of cooking.
She was blessed to come from a long line of photographers, creatives and story tellers. Her work during her college years was based mainly around still lives, and the balance of objects in space to create a sense of story or rhythm.
When she shoots or styles she looks for these connections- Where is the tension, where is the unspoken story?
She now divides her time between her NYC studio, the small Eastern Long Island town she grew up in and traveling the world looking for good food- and she takes her camera everywhere.
“Food has always been a central part of my life. I’ve worked in all aspects of the food business: front of house, back of house, retail and ran my own business for over 2 decades. I am a certified sommelier through The WSET, and I have a Masters (Columbia University) in Nutrition. This gives me a certain insight to the world of food production and creation. Mostly though, I love to entertain and connect with people in the food world.
I read somewhere that a photographer’s super power is to capturing time with light manipulation. I like that, and I like to use that power to capture the moments that tell your story.”
